S.E. Hintons book called The Outsiders mainly explains the life of these two teenage boys who are in a gang with each other. Their gang name is the Greasers and there rivals are the Socs. The two boys names are Ponyboy and Johnny. Ponyboy only has his two brothers as family their names are Dally and Sodapop. But he considers the rest of his gang family. So does Johnny but he has no real brothers or sisters only his mom and dad who could care less about him. Johnny’s dad is always beating him and his mom doesn’t care at all, she barley even talks to him. Johnny can take beating from his father but one day he was jumped by some Socs and ever since then he’s been so jumpy around people in pubic. The conflict is when Johnny had to kill a Soc so he could save Ponyboy. When this happened then they had to run from police. Reading though the book the lesson of the story that I chose was that anything even good can give consequences.
In the beginning of the story then it Is building up everything that is going to happen. Like when Ponyboy, Johnny, and Two-bit where walking with the two Soc girls. The two girls boyfriends drove by in a red mustang not noticing them the first time but they turned back around then saw the three greasers. They got out and this was starting the chained reaction of the story. The girl Socs made the ones with the car to not go after Ponyboy and them. But they still tried to fight. Two-bit didn’t do anything except make them mad by talking. The Socs left but the author made sure you could tell that the Socs would fight with them if they ever saw each other again.
towards the middle of this book it tells about how Johnny and Ponyboys time has been living in an abandoned church on top of a mountain in Windrixville by themselves for about a week stuck in the same clothes and stuck eating baloney sandwiches. Darry had come to visit them like he said he would when he sent them to the church to hide. They went and got some actually food from a Dairy Queen. Darry had talked with them and they decided to go back to their home with their friends. They first got back at the church to pick up the things they left there but when they got back it was completely covered in flames. There was kids inside of it who were playing when the fire started. So first Ponyboy jumped in and Johnny followed so they could help the kids get out. In the end Ponyboy was fine because of the jacket he was wearing. But Johnny was severely burned and he had broken his back.
In the end of the story Johnny was still in the hospital and all of the greasers decided they wanted to go and see him. When they got there though the doctors had told them that Johnny had died. This made Darry go crazy because he felt it was his fault for letting them go to the mountain he said that he should have just helped them stay away from the cops for a while so they didn’t have to leave. Darry had ended up trying to stick up a gas station put the police got there fast so he left and they chased him. But Darry was also drunk and while he was driving that didn’t help him. He ended up running into a wall in his car and had died. Further into the end of the book all of the greasers and Socs had a big fight against each other.
